এই হেমন্তে কেমন চলছে উত্তরবঙ্গের কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা দর্শন? আকাশ পরিষ্কার থাকলে শিলিগুড়ি থেকে এই তুষারধবল শৃঙ্গ দর্শন খুব অভাবনীয় কিছু নয়। এ বার পুজোর পরে তা বারবার চোখেও পড়েছে। তার পরেই যেন সেই ছবি ছড়িয়ে পড়ল অন্যত্রও। কখনও কিষানগঞ্জ পেরিয়ে ধুমডাঙ্গির কাছে, কখনও ইসলামপুর থেকে, কখনও শিলিগুড়ি লাগোয়া সাহুডাঙ্গি, কখনও জলপাইগুড়ি শহর, মালবাজার বা ময়নাগুড়ি থেকে, কখনও আবার আলিপুরদুয়ার থেকে। ফেসবুকের মতো সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ার হাত ধরে সেই ছবি পৌঁছে যাচ্ছে সর্বত্র।

কেন সর্বত্র এত স্পষ্ট কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা? শিলিগুড়ির অনেকেই বলছেন, প্রতি বছরই অক্টোবরের শেষ দিকে উত্তর দিগন্ত জুড়ে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা ভেসে ওঠে। বিশেষ করে পাহাড়ে গেলে তো দেখার সম্ভাবনা অনেক বেশি। কিন্তু এ বার যে সমতলে এত দূর থেকে বারবার দেখা যাচ্ছে, তার সব থেকে কারণ, বন্‌ধের ফলে পাহাড়ে গাড়ির দূষণ ছিলই না বলতে গেলে। উত্তরবঙ্গ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভূগোল বিভাগের প্রাক্তন প্রধান সুবীর সরকার বলেন, ‘‘শীতের শুরুতে বাতাসে ধূলিকণার পরিমাণও অনেক কমে য়ায়। দৃশ্যমানতা কয়েক গুণ বাড়ে। তাই ২০১৩ সালের ৮ অক্টোবর শিলিগুড়ি থেকে ২০০ কিলোমিটার দূরের রায়গঞ্জ থেকেও কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা দেখা গিয়েছে।’’ সে বারে বাংলাদেশের রংপুর থেকেও দেখা গিয়েছিল বিশ্বের তৃতীয় উচ্চতম এই শৃঙ্গ, যেমন এ বারে দেখা গিয়েছে ঠাকুরনগর থেকে।

ট্যুর অপারেটর সম্রাট সান্যাল বলেন, ‘‘মাস দেড়েক আগে পর্যন্ত পাহাড়ে ছেয়ে ছিল বিমল গুরুঙ্গের হুঙ্কার, সরকারি বাংলোয় আগুন, লাঠি-গুলি, কাঁদানে গ্যাস আর বন্‌ধ। সে সব শেষ হয়ে গিয়েছে। এখন এমন চমৎকার কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা দেখার টানে যদি আবার পাহাড়ে আসেন মানুষ, তা হলে ব্যবসার ক্ষতিপূরণও হয় কিছুটা!’’ এই টান উপেক্ষা করা কঠিন, বলছেন ন্যাফের কো-অর্ডিনেটর অনিমেষ বসুও। কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা বেসক্যাম্পে ট্রেক করে আসা অনিমেষবাবু বলেন, ‘‘উত্তরবঙ্গের বিস্তীর্ণ এলাকার মানুষ অত্যন্ত ভাগ্যবান, তাই খালি চোখে ঝকঝকে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা দেখতে পান।’’

পাশাপাশি অবশ্য অন্য আলোচনাও চলেছে। সমতলের অনেকেই বলছেন, ‘‘বিমল গুরুঙ্গ লুকিয়ে আছেন, সেই সময়ে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা রোজ দেখা দিচ্ছে। বোঝাই যাচ্ছে, পাহাড়ে কে বেশি শক্তিশালী!’’

ছবির সেট, সিনেমা হলে তাণ্ডব চলছিলই। এ বার সঞ্জয় লীলা ভংসালী পরিচালিত ছবির মুক্তি আটকাতে ভারত বন্‌ধের ডাক দিল শ্রী রাজপুত করণী সেনা। ‘পদ্মাবতী’ নিয়ে দেশ জুড়ে বিক্ষোভ-আন্দোলনের মাঝেই পরিচালককে পুলিশি সুরক্ষা দিল মহারাষ্ট্র সরকার।

ছবিটি মুক্তি পাওয়ার কথা আগামী ১ ডিসেম্বর। কিন্তু ছবিতে ইতিহাস বিকৃত করা হয়েছে এই অভিযোগে শ্যুটিংয়ের সময় থেকে বাধা দিয়ে আসছে করণী সেনা নামের সংগঠনটি। ছবির মুক্তি আটকাতে তারা সুপ্রিম কোর্টের দ্বারস্থও হয়। কিন্তু বিষয়টি নিয়ে সেন্ট্রাল বোর্ড অব ফিল্ম সার্টিফিকেশন (সিবিএফসি)-ই শেষ কথা বলবে বলে জানায় শীর্ষ আদালত। বোর্ড কর্তা প্রসূন জোশী ছবিটি দেখেছেন বলে সংবাদমাধ্যমে প্রচার শুরু হয় সম্প্রতি। কিন্তু আজ প্রসূন বিবৃতি দিয়ে জানান, ছবিটি তিনি দেখেননি, তাই এ নিয়ে কোনও মন্তব্য করবেন না।

আদতে রাজস্থানের সংগঠন করণী সেনার দেশের অন্য প্রান্তেও শাখা রয়েছে। যদিও ছবি নিয়ে গোলমালের সূচনা রাজস্থানেই। জানুয়ারিতে জয়পুরে ‘পদ্মাবতী’র সেটে ভাঙচুর চালায় করণী সেনা। তার পরও বারে বারে ছবির মুক্তি নিয়ে হুমকি দিয়ে এসেছে তারা। কখনও পোড়ানো হয়েছে ছবির পোস্টার। কখনও হুমকি দেওয়া হয়েছে হল মালিকদের। গত কালও কোটার এক শপিং মলে হলে ছবিটির ট্রেলার দেখানো হলে সেখানে তাণ্ডব চালায় জনা পঞ্চাশেক সেনা সমর্থক। করণী সভাপতি লোকেন্দ্র সিংহ কালভি কালই হুমকি দিয়ে বলেছিলেন, ‘‘এখন অনেক কিছু জ্বলবে।’’ রাজস্থানের পাশাপাশি গত কয়েক দিনে দেশের নানা রাজ্যে একই ধরনের হিংসাত্মক বিক্ষোভ ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। আজ বেঙ্গালুরুর টাউন হলে ছবির মুক্তি আটকানোর দাবিতে জড়ো হন করণী সেনার প্রায় ৫০০ সমর্থক। গুজরাত, ঝাড়খণ্ড, মধ্যপ্রদেশ, মহারাষ্ট্র, উত্তরপ্রদেশেও ‘পদ্মাবতী’ বিরোধী আন্দোলন চলছে। কোথাও করণী সেনার সঙ্গে যোগ দিয়েছে স্থানীয় কোনও হিন্দুত্ববাদী সংগঠন। কোথাও আবার সেনার পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছেন বিজেপি নেতারা।

Chhattisgarh Royal Claims No Rajput Queen Ever Danced In Front Of Anyone

Deepika Padukone's upcoming film Padmavati has been embroiled in plenty of controversies. From calling the movie factually incorrect to vandalising the sets, Rajput Karni Sena are making things difficult for the makers to release the film.

And now, a Chhattisgarh royal said filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali must show Padmavatito the Rajput organisations as the film is related to history, and he has slammed the way the movie has a song depicting a Rajput queen doing the 'ghoomar' dance.

Heena Singh Judeo, daughter-in-law of Dilip Singh Judeo of Chhattisgarh's erstwhile royal family, told IANS, "Our only demand is that the filmmaker should show us what the movie is, because it is related to the history."

 

The royal said filmmakers must respect Rani Padmavati "who did Jauhar (self-immolation) with 16,000 ladies, and who gave her life for Rajputana and Hindutva, but they are showing it in another way."

"We are just saying that we should know what they have given in the movie exactly," Heena said, stressing that Rani Padmavati was like a "mentor to Rajputana ladies". The Supreme Court dismissed a plea to stall the film's release.

On that, Singh said, "All the Rajput community organisations will unite and stand against it (the film). They always show Rajputana love story, they never show whatever they have done (sacrifices). And Sanjay Leela Bhansali always does this. We have also written a letter to the censor board and to everyone."

Bhansali had earlier said the movie is his tribute to the valour and sacrifice of Rani Padmavati, and has repeatedly clarified there are no scenes that may hurt the sentiments of any community. Deepika, who essays the Queen in the movie, had told IANS in an interview that she is confident Padmavati will release and that the outrage over the film is "appalling.

New Delhi: A new study provides more alarming consequences of your late night snacking habit.

The findings suggest eating at night can put you at higher risk of heart disease and diabetes, and the body's 24-hour cycle is to blame.

The researchers at the National Autonomous University of Mexico looked at levels of fat, called triglycerides, in the rats' blood.

They found that after feeding the rats fat at the beginning of their rest period, their blood fat levels spike more drastically than when fed during the beginning of their active phase. 

When they removed the part of the rat's brain that controls the 24-hour cycle, there was no longer a change in fat levels .

High blood fat levels are associated with heart disease and diabetes. These diseases are associated with a lifestyle where humans ignore the signals of the biological clock, and eat in the evening and night.

This study demonstrates why such a lifestyle out of sync with our 24-hour cycle may result in high blood fat levels and thus in a higher risk for heart problems.

Commenting on the study, author Ruud Buijs said: "The fact that we can ignore our biological clock is important for survival; we can decide to sleep during the day when we are extremely tired or we run away from danger at night. However, doing this frequently - with shift work, jet lag, or staying up late at night - will harm our health in the long-term especially when we eat at times when we should sleep."

The findings have been published in Experimental Physiology.
